Says Alan Broughton:
“The answer for a lot of farmers is reduce their inputs as much as they can.
The more chemical you use in agriculture, the more you need to use.
This is the figure there for nitrate use. Nitrate is one of the main fertilizers that farmers use.
What nitrate does, it damages the soil.
It damages the soil structure and the soil biology, and that means you’ve got to have more and more on all the time in order to get the same results.
A lot of farmers tell me super phosphate doesn’t work anymore.”

The answer has always been there, it’s just that many choose not to look.
Or are so used to doing what they are doing and resist change while things ‘sort of work’
